Tinubu, NAJA, Others Mourn Death of Businessman Anumudu


A renowned businessman and Chairman of Globe Motors, William Anumudu, has died at 68 after a brief illness. He passed in April 2i, 2020.
Anumudu was well known in Lagos  high society and  the nation’s competitive automobile sector. Stakeholders across the sectors expressed sadness over his death. The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu described Anumudu as a prominent businessman reputed for his industry and humanitarian activities.
“His death is a personal loss because he was close to me. But it is also a distressing loss to the country. Anumudu was a renowned philanthropist and businessman. As chairman of Globe Motors Nigeria Ltd., he was reputed for his industry, business expertise and philanthropic activities.
“Apart from his contributions in the business sector, the country needs people like Anumudu at this critical time when government and private sector players are putting minds and resources together to halt the spread of the coronavirus pandemic,” Tinubu said in his condolence message.
Asiwaju as he is fondly referred to by his followers continued, “My condolences also go to Governor Hope Uzodinma and the government and people of Imo State.” Tinubu also sympathised with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria for the loss of an illustrious member. He also condoled with Anumudu’s wife, Nkiru and children, praying God to comfort them and grant their father eternal rest.

Chief (Mrs.) Folashade Okoya, a prominent member in Lagos social circle and wife of industrialist billionaire, Aare Razaq Okoya, also mourned the passing of Pa Willie as the deceased is fondly called.
Taking to her Instagram page, Okoya, Managing Director of Eleganza Group, described Pa Willie as one with a good heart, which has stopped beating.
“A good heart has stopped beating. RIP Uncle Willie. My deepest sympathy goes to my Aunty Nkiru Anumudu and the entire family. Accept my condolences,” she wrote.
The auto sector, meanwhile, was also thrown into mourning. President of the Coscharis Group, Cosmas Maduka reportedly said it was shocking receiving the news of the death of his friend to whom he had recently preached about Jesus Christ and the need for every human being to seek salvation.
Toyota (Nigeria) Limited also mourned Anumudu whose firm, Globe Motors, is one of the brand’s dealers in Nigeria.“He was a devout Christian, a loving family man and a notable entrepreneur in the Nigerian automobile industry where he made significant strides and accomplishments. May the good Lord accept his soul and grant him eternal rest,” Toyota Nigeria stated in its message.
The Nigeria Auto Journalists Association {NAJA} said it received with shock, the news of the death of William Anumudu, who was one of the biggest automobile franchise owners in the business.
In a statement by the Chairman, Mike Ochonma, NAJA stated that the death of the Globe Motors Chairman was a huge loss to the automotive community where he has made tremendous impact in the past 30 years.
“The success story journey of Globe Motors began in March 1984 when William Anumudu, registered the company with a mission to transform the undeserved Nigerian automobile industry. Over three decades later, Globe Motors has surpassed its initial aspirations and the company continues to set the pace in the evolution of the country’s automobile sector,” NAJA noted.
Announcing the death of Anumudu, the management and staff of Globe Motors disclosed that he had previously travelled abroad where he successfully treated an undisclosed ailment.
However, it was learnt that the prevailing anti-COVID-19 measures, including the lockdown and the closure of the airports, made it difficult for the Globe Motors Chairman to access the urgent and specialist attention he needed as his condition relapsed recently.
“At last, we succeeded in making arrangements to fly him out of the country Tuesday, but he died early in the morning.”
Oguamalam also confirmed that no funeral arrangement would be made for now until after the nationwide restrictions to check the coronavirus were reversed and the immediate family deliberates on the matter. He added that further statements would be as announced by the family.
