By Justina Okpanku. A popular musician and sculptor, Sir Victor Uwaifo, has passed at the weekend. Uwaifo, who was also a flutist and writer was very creative and he clocked 80 on March 6, 2021. The Joromi crooner was an inventor of musical instruments, and had become a university lecturer after possessing a Masters degree and Ph.D in Architectural Sculpture. The music icon was later appointed as Honorable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in his home state Edo, Nigeria.
His artistry was able to make up what he lacked in size. Of course he dressed loud so one can’t miss him in a crowd. You would love his neat sculpted afro hair and clean appearance.
Without doubt, Uwaifo loved his art as he sang effortlessly and people were able to listen to his music which he gives them joy. He communicated to his audience in the universal language of art. No wonder, he had lots of fans and even won several awards, both locally and internationally.
Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has paid a glowing tribute to Sir Uwaifo. Like Oliver Twist, Uwaifo’s fans are asking for more to preserve his legacy. One said, “The first step would be for the state government to rehabilitate Sir Uwaifo’s home and museum as a tangible treasure a shining tourist and research destination in Nigeria and the African continent.” Contact us: just_tours @yahoo.com
