Buhari Names Emenike As Ambassador-designate to the USA

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced Dr. Uzoma Emenike as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the United States of America (USA).

The Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi  disclosed this in a social media post on Tuesday evening.

Emenike who  hails from Abia State is the first female ambassador designate to the United States.  She has a BSc in Sociology and Anthropology obtained from the University of Maiduguri, Masters in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos LL.B from the University of Reading in the UK.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland before her new post, Dr. Uzoma Emenike, who is also a non-career diplomat, was posted to the United States as the ambassador, while M.I. Bashir will serve as deputy ambassador.

Emenike before her reassignment, assume duty at the Nigerian Embassy in Dublin as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Ireland on 30th August, 2017. She also held concurrent accreditation to Iceland.

Ambassador Emenike joined the Nigeria Foreign Service over 30 years ago. She served in Protocol Department and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Subsequently, she was posted to the Nigerian Embassy in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire in 1992, where she served for six years. Upon her return to headquarters in Nigeria, she was variously deployed to other departments of the Ministry, during which she represented Nigeria in numerous bilateral and multilateral missions, both at home and abroad.

In 2002, Dr. Emenike left the Foreign Service for the private sector where, amongst others, she worked as a Management Consultant.

She has two Bachelor’s degrees, two Master’s degrees, and a Doctorate Degree. Dr. Emenike holds a B.Sc Sociology and Anthropology from the University Of Maiduguri, Nigeria and an LL.B from the University of Reading in the U.K. She also earned a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and another Master’s in International Management from University of Reading in the U.K.

Dr. Emenike capped her academic pursuit with a Doctorate degree in International Relations, also from the University of Reading in the U.K.

Among her published articles include: “The AFRICA We Envisage in 50 Years Time” and “Europe Needs Africa”. She is also the author of the book–“Africa: The Centre-Piece of Nigeria’s Foreign Policy”.

Ambassador Emenike is married to Chief Ikechi Emenike and they are blessed with four wonderful children.
