It has been raining cat and dog in Lagos area and the traffic situation got worse following the deplorable roads condition in the metropolis. Movement from Ota to Lagos could be hellish. Still Professor Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, the Olota of Ota, Ogun State made it as Royal Father of the Day.
Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege who wore his royal robes was a cynosure of attention at the seminar which was also an occasion where he was made a patron of the Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism (ANJET) among other travel and tourism leaders in the public and private sectors of Nigeria tourism. He looked very comfortable not because he was accompanied by his chiefs but also he was in the midst of friends and colleagues. Obalanlege had covered Travel & Tourism beat as a journalist with a leading newspaper in the country in the 1990s.
Now in his position as a newsmaker, the Royal Father urged government and Nigerians to explore the country’s tourism potential for job creation. It is noted that most of the tourism attractions in the country are situated at the grass roots level.
Obalanlege was reacting to the seminar topic with the theme titled ‘Tourism and Jobs: Better Future for All,” The seminar was organised by ANJET to advise people to stop depending on the government for job creation, but get creative and explore the country’s enormous tourism potential.
Generally, other speakers who had taken a hard look at Nigeria tourism gave knocks to governments who they said have refused to see the missing link in their efforts in diversifying the nation’s economy from the oil and gas sector. The stakeholders in Nigeria tourism sector charged government at all levels to focus more on tourism for accelerated development of the country, as the oil wealth dwindles.
