• Ethiopian Airlines issues Statement
Nigeria lost two people in the Ethiopian airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 crash. Nigerian-born Professor Pius Adesanmi of Carleton University’s Institute of African Studies was said to be carrying a Canadian passport though.
Adesanmi was one of 18 Canadians who died on board an Ethiopian Airlines jet Sunday. The plane, which was en route to Nairobi, Kenya, from Addis Ababa, crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 157 people on board.
The other Nigerian has a UN passport. The Ethiopian aircraft Boeing 737 Max 8 model was acquired recently, just four months ago.
Ethiopian Airlines confirmed that one of its aircraft with flight number ET 302 in a scheduled service from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was involved in an accident today, March 10 around Zeit.
A statement by the management of the airline stated that “Ethiopian Airlines regrets to confirm that its flight ET 302/10 March in schedule service from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was involved in an accident today around Zeit”.
“The aircraft B737800MAX with registration number ET Bishoftu (Debre AVJ took off at 08 :38 am local time from Addis Ababa, Bole International Airport and lost contact at 08:44am.
At this time search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible causalities”.
The airline said the staff will be sent to the accident scene and will do everything possible to assist the emergency services.
Ethiopian stated further that there were 149 passengers and 8 crew on-board the flight.
The Airline said it is currently confirming the details of the passenger manifest for the flight.
